This is the second in the Batting (B)Order series. You can find Part I (Sam's Bucks), here.
Being a fan is hard. Sometimes you have to watch countless bad teams take the court and field, only to be completely destroyed on a consistent basis. Other times you have to deal with owners and GMs who are as incompetent as it gets (shoutout James Dolan and the Knicks). One of the worst agonies, however, that a fan can undergo is losing a favorite player. With this in mind, we here at Batting Border will give you starting lineups with a few additional spots for our respective teams, filled with players that we loved the most. Please note this is not an all-time lineup. Kareem is one of the best Bucks players in franchise history, but Sam was -28 when he brought them a championship and he wanted to leave town shortly after. Kareem could never be one of Sam's favorite Bucks players, even though he is much better than someone like John Henson. Now, here is my favorite Wolves list.
PG: Steph Curry
SG: Klay Thompson
SF: Kawhi Leonard
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo
C: DeMarcus Cousins
Oh wait, I'm not supposed to be picking my favorite players that the Wolves could've drafted but didn't? My bad. Also, never show this screenshot to a Wolves fan.
Aaaand we're back. Here's the real list.
PG: Tyus Jones
SG: Zach Lavine
SF: Andrew Wigg- lol jk it's Michael Beasley
PF: Kevin Garnett
C: Karl-Anthony Towns
Coach: Flip Saunders
Bench
PG: Andre Miller
SG: Jamal Crawford
SF: Corey Brewer
PF: Kevin Love
C: Nikola Pekovic
The Wolves suck. They have been a tortured franchise from their start in 1995, and turned their back on the only player that ever gave them a real chance to contend for titles (Kevin Garnett). It would be much easier to make a roster of players they've employed that I dislike than players I like. But I have accomplished it. Anyway. Flip Saunders, the former Golden Gopher and two-time Wolves coach, gets the nod at head coach. He's probably the best of a pretty sad bunch, and he definitely achieved "one-of-us" status in Minnesota. His son Ryan is probably runner-up, although he may be on his way out soon. Garnett and Towns are no-brainer picks for the starting squad, as they are the two best players that have ever played for the franchise. Zach Lavine's high-flying stunts (and lack of competition) earn him the shooting guard spot (boy, wish we hadn't traded him for a locker room cancer who couldn't elevate us past a first-round exit). The small forward spot, in my memory, has always been bad or occupied by frustrating players (Butler and Wiggins). So, the urban philosopher Michael Beasley earns the spot for his interview antics. At point guard, we have Minnesota's own Tyus Jones. I never thought that Jones got his fair shot in Minnesota, as the Apple Valley product was generally played in low minutes off the bench, despite performing strongly. Of course, Jones' college days also earn him love from spiteful Minnesotans like myself, as he did this to Wisconsin on the biggest stage while at Duke.
The most notable of the bench squad is Kevin Love, who was a lovably unathletic double-double machine made of proper box-outs and baby fat in his Minnesota days. Along with him, we have noted Russian mafia hit-man Nikola Pekovic. He was pretty good, and he looked like this:
Aside from those two, we have PG Professor Andre Miller, who was 39 when he was on the Wolves, sixth-man walking bucket Jamal Crawford, and noted 50-point scorer Corey Brewer (no, really, he dropped 50 once). Quite a group.
So, who are some of your favorite (or least favorite) Timberwolves players? Let us know in the comments!
