The Timberwolves are reportedly up for sale, and I couldn't be happier. While Glen Taylor has done some good things for the franchise (namely, kept them from being moved), he has long been suspected of holding the franchise back with his decision-making. He's also rumored to be only considering offers from ownership groups that will keep the team in Minneapolis, which is good news.
I can only see two downsides here: one, if the new ownership goes back on their pledge to remain in Minneapolis; two, if the new ownership brings in their "own guy" as President of Basketball Operations. Recent hire Gersson Rosas has been one of the few good hires of the Taylor era, and it really seems like he may be starting to build something after some savvy moves in the past year. I think it would be unfortunate if he got ousted simply because of new ownership.
However, I'm excited overall. Especially considering two of the rumored front-runners: a group headlined by Timberwolves legend Kevin Garnett, and the Wilf family, who also own the Vikings. It obviously would be very exciting to have someone as passionate and close to the franchise's heart as Garnett take over a leading role. It also would be an improvement to have the Wilfs in charge, as they would have incentive to stay in Minnesota, have a boatload of money, and have turned the Vikings into one of the best-run franchises in the NFL (off the field, anyway). If either of these two groups buys the team, the Wolves may be better off than they've been since KG was starting at power forward.
